On Tuesday, March 16th, we took a grand tour around Grand Canary, or half of it as seen on the icon above. Just click it and it becomes much larger.

To the left, our bus that left our hotel spot on and we travelled up the coast past the airport, Gando, third largest in Span, through Las Palmas and to our first stop, Arucas for the rum distillery.

To the right, we have arrived, ready for the guided tour. To the right our friendly tour guide, Katlena.

Here we have all the casks, containing some 200 litres of rum each in the dark cellars. They store them for 3, 5, 12 and 20 years before putting them on the market.

Here we line up to test drink the goodies.

Here they lined up the drinks.

And Katlena is happily describing the benefits of the various drinks. Personally, May and I preferred the liqueur. Rum is not for us.

At the most, they bottle some 12 000 an hour. Here they are ready to be shipped out.

Relaxing outside the distillery, the pipes just behind our heads.

Then the trip went to Teror, the religious capital of the island. The pine trees are protected.

The pine trees even grow on top of roofs as can be seen on this picture.

Another view of wooden roof tops. The veranda is made of pine. These days illegal, since the trees are protected due to the water they supply to the ground.

Inside the church with a Madonna figure of 600 kilos of pure silver. Impressive.

Here is the entrance of the church, lying in the banana district of Grand Canary.

And outside the church, the famous pine trees.

Martin having bought a piece of alovera soap. Good for burned skin.

And back on the bus to our next stop, the restaurant for lunch, Balcon de Zamora just outside Teror.

Balcon de Zamora with a beautiful view of the valley below.

Then back on the bus to Tejeda where we went shopping in local market.

The market was fascinating.

With all kind of dried fruits, sweets and table cloths.

The next stop was Roque Nublo with a fantastic view of the valley below.

To the right, you see the praying priest, the dick and sleeping Indian. Amazing rock formations.

More view of the valley below. And the it was back home to the hotel.

Another view, more to the right.

And at night, we had barbeque dinner at the hotel with a litre of Sangria, the local drink for tourist.

And of course local musicians that May enjoyed very much as seen of the picture.

The next day, Wednesday, we spent pool side.
